Opening Night Reception

Celebrate opening night of the 2022  Reedy Reels Film Festival with our reception and VIP Party to kick off this year’s festival. Our kick-off party will have cocktails & hors d’oerves available at SC Children’s Theatre Lobby.

We will be screening films during the reception that will take place at the SC Children’s Theatre venue.

Sacred 2022

Sacred Waters: The Okefenokee in Peril takes viewers into the heart of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, showcasing its mystical natural beauty, cultural importance, and incredible ecological value. But, as the title of the film sets forth, the sacred waters of the Okefenokee are in peril. The threat of a proposed mineral mine near the edge of the Okefenokee looms large, putting the natural integrity of the Swamp at risk. As Sacred Waters brings us deeper into the Okefenokee, we understand how great this threat truly is.

Eloise Was Here 2022

Teenagers Olivia and Eloise, desperate for an adventure and an escape from their difficult lives, embark on a journey together. After ditching school, the two run away in a bid to find themselves and finally experience true freedom. Meanwhile, Olivia’s mother grows worried for her safety and attempts to find her and Eloise.

A lonely axolotl child draws pictures of their absent parents and dreams of happier days. Through their art, they find that a loving family may not be that far away.

A thousand-year-old couple from the planet Curia spends their yearly vacation traveling through the classic Milky Way galaxy in their vintage space car. After receiving a mysterious DM Savvanah was skeptical to go to this hiking trail but after hitting a rut in content what could she lose. After getting deeper in the forest, she feels someone watching her. Her fears are confirmed when she find her own missing persons flyer in the forest. Deep in the forest she must make her way back but this time knowing that she is not walking alone.

Devils Details 2022

A witch gets less than she bargains for when she tries to summon Satan on her ex-boyfriend. An occult comedy.

The House 2022

Amy, the kind of person who would steal your vodka and replace it with water, moves into a haunted house for the great rent. She finds herself surrounded by ghosts whose personalities are suspiciously similar to her own. These beings don’t want justice or eternal rest. They want Hulu. They want potato chips. And they expect Amy to help. When Amy can no longer take their harassment, she decides to exorcise them…on a budget, of course.

Rainbow 2022

This is a fabulous film that confronts the cultural backdrop of the Chinese taboo that forbids dialogue about poverty or financial want, in this tale of love, learning, enlightenment, creativity and growth, two children discover a way to give a Mother’s Day gift beyond the value of money.

Snake Eyes

When a bride and groom separately roll ones on their twenty-sided dice (indicating a critical failure), they decide to call off the wedding. Help comes in the form of a kind priest who hopes to use his misguided nerd knowledge to change their minds and get the wedding back on track.

This is a short film about the anxiety of a young woman who fears being forgotten and tries to find her place in the world.

Stupa 2022

Can a mound of dirt represent the buddha, the path to enlightenment , a mountain and the universe all at the same time. It can if it is a stupa. The Stupa is a 2021 non-narrative documentary presented in a new age video journal vlogging style. Presented by the juxtaposition of images and music, It tells the story of the dome shaped Buddhist shrine called Stupa which is the monument of peace, harmony and love and its presence in the mountains of Nepal. It then explores the theme of natural events, human conditions, historical activities and cultural mythologies surrounding the Stupa.

David Whitten lost his wallet and passport hours before his trip to Amsterdam. Something incredible and unexplainable happens – but was it for his benefit… or someone else’s?

Enough Time 2022

Oskar Salomonowitz, the 12-year-old son of filmmakers Anja Salomonowitz and Virgil Widrich, had drawn 206 frames of a flip book when he died in an accident. Using the remaining blank sheets, his father continued drawing the film. Winner of 24 international film awards!

Inspired by his own mother’s battle and ultimate loss to cancer, “just let go (the ballet)” is a 13 minute contemporary dance work by Thomas Shoemaker that shares the final moments of a young mother’s life, her memories of love, and the journey her family must make as they all “just let go.”

The event will be hosted by award-winning filmmakers Geoffrey Gunn and Jean-Baptiste Chuat, who will share insights from his professional experience working as a concept designer and marketing illustrator on films like Johnny Mnemonic, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and David Cronenberg’s CRASH.

1301 Movie 2022

Talk Back 2022

Mahogany is a talented black engineer working in the not so subtly racist south. She’s been working at TLS for five years, but her boss continually gives the two new guys preferential treatment. As a coping mechanism Mahogany creates Liquida, a wild and expressive reflection of her self-consciousness. There are three versions of Liquida who, in their own way, try to get Mahogany to speak up for herself. When her boss embarrasses Mahogany in front of the new guys as well as a very important client, Liquida finally takes over Mahogany’s body. And she holds nothing back.

In the film, Gary leaves his home town and journeys to NASA, eventually overcoming adversity and traveling to space. Up amongst the stars, Gary discovers himself and so much more! Gary the Duck features a mix of 2D digital, 3D CG, and traditional hand-drawn animation, and was produced over the course of more than three years, from 2018 to 2021.

Spirits Move Them 2022

Everything we know about moonshine and moonshiners is wrong. From the Beverly Hillbillies to Thunder Road, moonshiners have been portrayed as lazy, drunk outlaws who are unable to hold a regular job, wear long beards and have longer arrest records with few redeeming qualities except for their entertainment value. “Spirits” re-looks at moonshine history by chronicling the life of the Appalachian farmer, the resilient life they lived and the role liquor production played in helping them make a living.

Lone Pine 2022

The film follows the story of main character Alanna, a young girl who after losing her father goes on her annual trip to Lone Pine, California with her mom. While there, she’s led to a few of her favorite places in the area for some unexpected adventures and heartfelt experiences.

Vessel 2022

When Lucy Boland gave birth to premature triplets, caretaking seemed to consume her life. Yet it was in that chapter that she rediscovered her lifelong passion to create. One that requires so much work, it’s as if he has stagehands to assist in building the facades in his apartment. Throughout the day, his world reorganizes as the people around him come and go. But the exhaustion of performing starts to erode at the perfect illusion he’s constructed.

BROOKLYN IN JULY is the story of Frank Walker, an African-American WWII veteran working as a chauffeur. It is the summer of 1945. The War is all but won. The U.S. is riding a wave of triumph even as the undertow of unresolved issues roils beneath. Frank, like so many other African-Americans of the time, is drawn to New York by the promise of better life only to be confronted by the same realities, fear, and hatred he hoped he had left behind. He is a man scarred by a past that is lurking skin deep.
